Thanked: 1072Grinder
Today I acquired an old industrial fan. The motor says it's 175W and 1400 RPM.
It has 3 speed settings so I'm not sure when it runs at 1400 RPM.
But my point is, I want to make a basic grinder, probably like the one Charlie started out with. do you guys think this motor sounds like a good candidate.
The only other thing that concerns me is that when you turn the motor on it doesnt start turning on its own, it just needs a very light push with my finger and its off and running. Does this sound like the motor is faulty enough to worry about?
Sorry boys, I have VERY little electrical knowledge.
Thanks for any thoughts

Not sure it has enough HP(horse power. Sure it spins at 1400 but can it maintain that under load without slowing?

175W is only 0.23hp.
That is far too light for any grinding. The motor will slow down under load and burn out. Literally
