    Default Scale design

Just finished polishing up this blade. It was a rusty eBay blade with no scales. Does anyone know what the original scales looked like? Is a 5/8 wedge. I was thinking about some cocobolo or olive wood, but then again I have never tried horn yet.

Nope. It is virtually impossible to say what the original scales were like.
Back in the day, as now, the same blades were fitted with different scales, depending on budget and desirability. Ivory, horn, wood, bakelite, celluloid, etc. It could have been anything.

When in doubt Google it out. If you can't find an image of one you are just going to have to draw one out. Black horn with a simple pattern is a safe bet but like they said "who knows." If it had scales on it you still might not know what the originals looked like :<0).
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
