Default Furnace design= potential forge design

I was browsing youtube watching metal casting vids and found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTPdy...e_gdata_player

Looks like a good cheap/er gas forge idea. This guy uses it to melt aluminum for casting but that means he gets the temp up to at least 1220°F/660°C. Perlite and fire cement are cheaper than some other materials and you can make your forms whatever shape or size you want.

    What do you all think?

It'll probably work, but you will want to lay it on its side, so you can lay the pieces flat.
For hammering steel you need more heat than that, but that should not be a big issue.
