Thanks shooter. Yep, it's about 3/16 away from the wheel in the photo. Hoping my idler wheels come in soon so I can complete the platen. Photos to follow

If I may make a suggestion: You might consider making a left to right incision in the plate.
That would enable you to mount a guide or a jig, should you ever need one. For freehanding razors it would not be much use imo, but if you are working on something where you need to keep a certain angle (or need to stay perpendicular like a chisel) it would be a big help to have that left to right incision where you can put bolts through.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 170To Bruno's post - I clamp a steel bar on the left side when I need to grind square in both planes. I usually do this when I'm squaring up pen blanks. The bolt slot idea is probably better than a clamp - I'll probably do that next time I need to.
