    Should work well for profiling, is it adjustable so you can get it closer to the grinding wheel?

    Thanks shooter. Yep, it's about 3/16 away from the wheel in the photo. Hoping my idler wheels come in soon so I can complete the platen. Photos to follow

    If I may make a suggestion: You might consider making a left to right incision in the plate.
    That would enable you to mount a guide or a jig, should you ever need one. For freehanding razors it would not be much use imo, but if you are working on something where you need to keep a certain angle (or need to stay perpendicular like a chisel) it would be a big help to have that left to right incision where you can put bolts through.

    To Bruno's post - I clamp a steel bar on the left side when I need to grind square in both planes. I usually do this when I'm squaring up pen blanks. The bolt slot idea is probably better than a clamp - I'll probably do that next time I need to.
