Thanked: 0Looking for info
Hi, new to the website. I have four old straight razors that I got from my dad about 20 years ago. He's passed away so I can't get any info about them. They are in very good condition.
One is a Dubl Duck Goldedge, info on it is pretty easy to find on Ebay.
I can't find any info at all about this one, it has plain yellow scales, the blade has beautiful etching on it and reads: "Silver Steel" with a banner and crown in the background. The tang is stamped "94" and has the name "Feinsilberstahl" and "Solingen". Can anyone tell me anything about it?
I have a plain black scale with "The Barber 156" etched on the blade. "The J.R. Torrey Co. Worcester, MA" printed on the tang. I have found info on Torrey knives but not the "156", any info?
I also have a J.R. Torrey Co. with "Our 136" etched on the blade. It has pearl scales and it has some light pitting on the blade.
I'm really curious as the value of the razors. I have a friend wanting to buy them but I don't know much about them. I can tell you everything you never wanted to know about a Case knife, but I'm lost when it comes to razors.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Have you looked at the Straight Razor Database in the library?

Thanked: 0I did, but couldn't find anything about the "Silver Steel" with the "94" "Feinsilberstahl" tang stamp.

Arch,
those are some beautiful razors, however we do not do valuations here.
The Torrey Co. was a very large producer of some fine daily drivers in their heyday (and a few up scale models).
I have an affinity for American steel and have not been disappointed in a Torrey yet.It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

As stated above, we don't do valuations here on the site. It can lead to all sorts of nastiness. With a few minutes on google, Feinsilberstahl roughly means "Fine Silver Steel". Take a look on ebay for past auctions to get an idea of the market.
Best of luckThe older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
