I made a convert!
Although he is little young for the crowd here so i do not expect him to sign up, but, one of my nephews has decided to start using a straight. He has tried it twice and says he likes it. Of course he thinks is should give him a few razors a brush and a strop, but i think i'll just loan him a razor, a brush and an old strop for a month or two just t omake sure... Maybe if he is sticks with it until June I'll give him a real nice high school graduation present.
Oh the monsters that can be created... hook 'em when they are young, like the cigarette industry!Be just and fear not.

Yeah, lend him first and see how he progresses. Gotta be careful though. My FIL cut the tip of his finger off because he wouldn't listen to me about safety. It's great to have more people signing on, but you have to make sure they understand that they're the ones responsible for their own safety. When my own father tells me what a great shave he gets from his Mach III, I can only shake my head and tell him he's wrong and that, unlike him, I'm in a position to know better having shaved both ways. They've got to want to take the leap themselves and even then there's no guarantee the'll work it out. Like my FIL. I got him going because he asked me to and I knew he'd never shut up if I didn't. I don't know if he's got the same level of interest anymore.

HALLELUJAH ! Praise..... who ever you praise!
I've become a closet shaver. Too many strange looks when you tell people you shave with a straight.
Current company excepted of course

he had to do some homework first
I made him watch Lynn's DVD 3 times and let him watch me a half dozen times or so. Of course he grows as much beard in a week as i grow in a day.
But people have to be allowed to experience things so they can better make a decision.Be just and fear not.

Young Blood
High School is a little young for this crowd, but I could see some guys in that group maybe signing up. I'm not much older really, 21. Actually when I signed up I figured I would be way younger than most of you guys, but I see many of you guys are in the 25-28 range.
I've tried to convert like the true zealot that I am. Sadly my scratched up face does little to inspire the masses. I'm not really a good spokes person right now haha. Even before I actually started though, most guys my age thought I was crazy for wanting to learn. My room mate uses and electric and he can't even begin to imagine why I would want to actually make a big deal out of shaving. He says his electric gets just as close, but he is speaking of a subject he can not even begin to understand.
I find that most guys my age are of similar reasoning. I think this has largely to do with the fact that most people my age have never had any experiences with straight razors other than maybe in movies, which do a horrible job of representing the whole art of it. I have read some posts from you older gents about going to the barber and watching him strop up a blade to shave your dad, or watching your grandfather shave with one as a kid. My generation rarely experiences something like this. Most are like,"Wait, people still shave with those things, and you can still by them? There are companies that still make straight razors?!"
It is great that you have gotten your nephew on board. Maybe with enough young converts we can cause a rise in user numbers. Though then shaving with a straight would not be nearly as cool haha.
Sorry if I hijacked the thread. Didn't mean to.

Thanks to sites like this one I think straight razors are actually experiencing a tiny renaissance. Twenty years ago there was more of that, "You can't be serious" attitude, but now there's even a bit of a buzz. I wouldn't quite say it's on the radar or anything, but at least there are opportunities for quirks like us to get our shaving fix. I love that young guys have access to this information that I didn't at your age. I say spread the word. Sure the guy that hears you might call you nuts to your face, but if we're lucky he'll do so behind your back too. If he does it enough somebody's bound to start thinking.

the saints you can praise/pray to before and during the duration that the edge is at your face are amian, Cosmas, Louis IX, and Martin De Porres
