no good deed goes unpunished.
So a guy at work is interested in straight shaving. I loaned him a Dovo and a TI, almost new. Explained how to take care of them. He returned them after 4 weeks, with significant rust on them. I feel violated. Just neede to vent.

I understand the fustration. Also sorry to hear about it. I haven't let someone barrow a razor, but tools that were left out in the rain and the drawers were still filled with water. AHHHHHH. Took me about 3 hours to clean them all and the drawers they were in.

Thanked: 3228Yea, been stiffed by people I have lent things to also and it does P me off when that happens. I really believe Will Shakespeare had it covered http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/254800.html and I agree with him. I now prefer to give things instead of loaning them. That way there is no expectation of returning in good condition.

That is so wrong. Sorry to hear that. Your generosity is what makes our members so special. It's a shame he didn't value and respect your generous offer.

Newbies tend to underestimate the damage they can do to a razor. I sent out an 8/8 Wade and Butcher for a new guy here to try out. It came back rusted at the pivot, and it had to be restored. I'm much more careful now.

Newbies are newbies for a reason. I just let it go. I'm $100 lighter in the wallet, but I did learn a lesson in the process.

Agree that lending may not be the best. On older SE and DE razors I've just sent them off as gifts. Not sure if I'd do a str8.

Thanked: 1195The fact that you gave explicit instructions on how to care for a razor makes this inexcusable. But there's no point in making him clean them up as he'll probably do more harm than good. Sorry to say, but you'll just have to chalk it up to "lesson learned" and clean them up yourself.
