It is probably good forward planning to get him something nice now, they are only going to get scarcer as time goes on.

That's my thinking. Any and all that I've collected and loved will go to him eventually, in the mean time he can have a nice one of his own and any other he comes by if he takes to it.

A heirloom has to start somewhere. Why not you be the one and pick out something special to start the ball rolling. In 300 years your great great great grandson will remember you for it.

I already have my grandfathers straight that I intended for 1 of my sons to inherit when they show interest.

    so my question is,
would you prefer a new razor made the year of birth or an already very old restored & used straight to put his name on it to keep,
or let them pick which they want when they are old enough.

What would be everyones favourite choice to be their heirloom Straight razor?
If I were you, I would go with one of each your grandfathers, and a birth year one. Definitely if you have to select one go with your grandfather's razor!
