I just recently purchased two razors from e-bay they seem sharp cut the hairs on my arm but not sharp enough to shave with what should I do?

First of all, what brand, size razors. What is their current condition. Pics would help. How much wear on the spine, etc. All that needs to be taken into consideration if you are going to have a functioning razor. Almost nothing comes shave ready off of eBay. If the razors have some life left in them they should go to a professional honer. The classifieds can lead you to one in your neck of the woods. And as a person who learned not to be stung by eBay, there are many, many better places to buy a decent razor. Depending on your budget, Whipped Dog on up to SRP classifieds (reasonable to high cost). And all from reputable sellers that back up their razors.

    First off, welcome to SRP!

As for the razors, unless they were advertised as shave ready by someone who knows what they are doing I would say get them honed by one of the honemeisters here. They advertise in the classifieds.

And to satisfy my own curiosity, what kind of razors did you purchase? Pictures are always welcome

Before sending them off, it would be worth taking some good pictures and sending them (via email) to your proposed honer, they might be able to give you some advice on whether the postage would be worthwhile.

I would send out those photos, but not so much with regard to honing:

    • if there's massive hone wear, it might not be worth honing; or, honing might cost more.
    • if there's little-if-any hone wear, then the honer's regular rates probably apply

The real reason to send photos is if you're thinking about having one-or-both "restored". THEN, photos of the razors certainly can play a roll in initially determining thumbs-up/thumbs-down to the work; but nothing beats sending them off to the honer/restorer and getting HIS professional opinion on what's needed, what's not, and what's even possible.

But yes, send them out for professional honing, from an SRP-accredited vendor.

    Smooth shaving!

You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

That was really what I was getting at, either honed to death, damaged or just junky blades may not be worth the cost of postage, obvoiously once in hand it would be easier to see any flaws but major stuff would be identifiable.
