Thread: My cold water shave

I think that very cold water works for me as a beginner. This was my 3rd straight shave done by my self at home. I usually shave around midnight-3am after work due to the fact that my house /neighborhood is pitch silent & cool at that time.

The first two shaves were done with hot/warm water. Being that I have sensitive skin, it made my skin too soft. I tried cold water just now & it made a huge difference for my skin type.

I used RozoRock Brain freeze soap, Capital Cuttlery Black Steele & clubman reserve aftershave. I'm excited to shave now , instead of looking at it as a chore. Wayne-

Glad to hear you are finding methods that work for you.
I to enjoy a cold water shave, a few of our members refrigerate water and their soap as well as do Ice rub downs post shave.
Keep experimenting until you find what works and what you enjoy.

I too find cold shaving good for my skin. It's pretty hot here in Queensland, so like you I also prefer to shave after dark, much cooler and much quieter after the kids have gone to bed. I struggled with hot water for a while before I learned of cold shaving here on the forum. I'm glad I did.

Bravo! I, too, found a cold water shave the solution to my sensitive skin problem. That and staying away from product with certain ingredients. Have tried the ice cube rub after shaving and will start using it again when Summer heat hits Oregon. On the chillier days here I find lukewarm water makes for a comfortable shave. Have been slowly introducing a colder and colder final rinse in the shower, which has also increased my enjoyment of a shave.

Great tip and this works well for me too.

Sensitive skin, too. Nary a red spot nor ingrown hair since I started using cold water and a straight. It does seem to e a skin type issue.

Maybe I'll have to try that (maybe in the summer) but it's cold here in Montana.

Cold works a treat for me, not fridge cold but out of the tap cold. Cold tap is fairly warm in summer but still better than a "hot" shave

I use cold out the tap on a hot day or lukewarm in winter. I don't think freezing or near as, is either comfortable or necessary. Just not hot or really warm and my skin seems happy.
