Thanked: 1Lost Bismarck!!!!!!!!
So I have been using a straight for roughly a year. From SRP's classifieds, I first purchased a dovo best quality. I was amazed how great shaving with a straight felt. Unfortunately my inexperience caught up, and I think I did more damage stropping then good. I then saw a deal for a Bismarck in the classifieds. Picked it up for 80$ I think. It was sharp! I carefully stroped my new razor before every use, and managed to hold a good edge for all this time. ( I'm not a everyday shaver, more like once a week if that.) Last week I had I went out of town, for my Dads funeral. I stayed in a hotel with my wife and twin boys. I brought my Bismarck, for a good shave before the funeral. Being so scattered brained and stressed with kids, hurrying not to be late to funeral, my razor never was packed. I LEFT MY BISMARCK!!!! I didn't realize till a day later, called and hotel says it was never turned in... Now I'm broke, with a dull dovo best quality. That is all. My depressing story.

That sucks.
There is no bright side I can pull out of the hat on this one. All I can say is roll on payday.
You might also want to think about a vintage bismarck. You should be able to ebay one for under £30. They shave like champs, and are pretty inexpensive, They don't look like the dovo however. The dovo is all style, gold wash and flair.
Or was it a vintage Bismarck you lost? If so I feel your pain I have 2 of them, Their my babies.
Edit,
Sorry for the loss of your dad. SRP/RAD give an odd sense of priorities sometimes. My whole post was all about the loss of your razor, and in the great scheme of things the razor is an inconvenience at most.Last edited by Iceni; 02-06-2014 at 01:41 AM.

Condolences for the loss of your Dad.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 1Super sorry for your loss brother.
Tough about the razor, have you thought about sending the Dovo out for honing? You could have it up and running for quick and cheap...I used Larry at Whipped Do and couldn't be happier with the results.
I agree, hang on the bay for a bit and you'll find a good deal.

Thanked: 2Sorry for your loss.
As far as future travels, so you don't find yourself broke and without your prized straight razor again, I would suggest getting a cheap Shavette style straight (with disposable razors). These are great for traveling because 1) they are a lot cheaper than even a cheap straight (~$20 brand new, can find them under $10 on ebay sometimes), 2) you don't have to fool around with stropping your blade (if your blades dull, throw it and replace with a new one), and 3) they are much less delicate (i.e. less likely to be damaged by dropping or being flung around in a suitcase).
