Anyone ever house swapped?
The wife and I were talking. She has an ex-boyfriend who we're both still friends with who lives with his wife in Hawaii. We live in a town adjoining our home town. It's Rhode Island, nothing special, but it's his home town area. He wants to come back for a month or so to visit family. We wouldn't mind spending some time in Hawaii, so we've discussed swapping homes for a month.
Anyone ever done this? Results? Considerations, etc...? Granted, this is someone we know, but how about with someone in general. Also, are there forums specifically dedicated to this?
Thanks,
John
PS Anyone from Ireland interested in the same? I'm 1 hour from Harford, CT, 1 hour from Boston, MA, 3 1/2 hours from New York City and about 3 hours from all the largest New England ski areas.

John,
While never having done it myself, apparently there is a whole new culture out there that does this type of thing. I saw something on the news about it the other night also, and it's becoming a big thing.
I just did a google with words like house swap vacation and plenty came up, most you probably have to subscribe to though, and I suppose some even want a fee, but I'm sure there would be the freebie site as well.
Good Luck,
Regards
John

Thanked: 1Hi I'm in Ireland but my wife is from iowa, so there's no way I'd get to goto the states and not stay with her parents. shame really sounds like a good idea.
edit: I'll ask around if you like. I'm sure someone would jump at the chance.

We've swapped houses, but only with people we know. Have swapped with friends from Brussels, Belgium; Paris; Corciano, Italy; London; LaJolla, CA.
My wife's an academic, and she meets people from all over the world at conferences, so some of the connections are from that. And, I work for a British company, so have some connections there.
Good luck, but be leery of the websites, as always!
