No steep learning curve for me with DE razors. In fact, I felt like a Sucker First Class when I used one and couldn't believe how comfortable it was compared to multiblade razors.

When I stopped using cartridge razors, I started using a DE. I got great shaves from a DE. So much so that I promised myself that I would only entertain a straight as long as I can get as good or better of a shave than I got with my DE. I was able to do that. But there are two things that I suggest to anyone still using a cartridge razor. The first is get a brush and a good soap/cream. It will make a great improvement over aerosol creams and is the easiest thing to change in your routine. The next is to switch to a DE since the results are SOOOO superior to the multi blade option. And if curiosity catches them, they can try a SR on their own if it is of any interest.

This is interesting, a couple of months ago, I went to a Loblaws and a Shoppers Drug Mart, and noticed they were selling Wilkinson DE blades, I thought cool, then I looked at the price, they were selling them for $17.95 for a back of 10...they just can't stand the idea of anyone using something that will provide 80 shaves (8 shaves per blade x 10) for under $5....just a head shaking moment...

It has been a while since I bought any blades at a brick and mortar. Last time was online and it was a sampler pack that include Wilkies.
    They are my favorite.
Razor Blades Sampler: Derby, Astra Platinum, Astra Stainless, Feather, Wilkinson, Black Feather | Fendrihan Shaving Store
60 blades for $23. Although, I'd only get around 30 shaves out of a pack of ten. Packs of ten go $3-$6 and 100 are as low as $15 up to $50.

Think of it: at the SDM you could get 100 blades for $180, the cost of a nice straight!

Yes, I had to go to Mens Essentials on Danforth to pick something up for a buddies 50th Birthday, got him a Merkur DE starter shaving kit, and picked up a 36 blade sample pack for $7.95...and yes, Fendrihan, three weeks after getting him his DE, he's now p$ssed at me for getting him addicted to wet shaving, he's ordered a travel razor kit from Fendrihan and has now purchased two vintage DE's from the Bay, one beautiful old Gillette Aristocrat, virtually NOS, he laughed when I explained RAD, then got frightened when I explained SAD...he laughed and said he's already bought two different soaps!!! As I then said to him, "Resistance is futile!"

His last sentence was, he couldn't see himself ever trying a straight...I said OK.....
