Just to follow through on sizes for straight razors: the numbers refer to the "width" of the blade from spine to edge, in fractions of an inch. So, 4/8 (half inch), 5/8, 6/8 etc.
Nice thing about starting with a double-edged for body shaving is 1) more manageable size for tricky areas, but especially 2) the skills you learn about preparation, blade angle, lack of pressure/pressing, and so on, are all directly applicable to straight shaving if you ever decide to tackle it. Good luck and have fun!Keep your pivot dry!

Welcome Melinda! I am a long time wet shaver, but straight shaving is new to me.

Thanked: 14HI Mel!
There are a lot of great websites out there and yes, it can be difficult to find something feminine. I always recommend vintage blades for a little style, class and frankly, weight. You can see a ton of great razors here: Razors - Straight Razors - Razor Emporium
For soaps and creams: I have super sensitive skin (and get hives from food allergies) and find my best results with Proraso White or Catie's Bubbles Karmic Spa soap, it's not an official shaving soap and is 100% coconut oil so it nourishes your skin and gives you a ton of luxurious lather!
Please keep us posted on your journey!
