Thanked: 1587Just shaved my first third party Head
Hi all,
Well, I just shaved my first head that wasn't mine, and it was in public. Our University organised a shave-off for The World's Greatest Shave - a fund raiser for the Australian Leukaemia Foundation.
I was teasing one of the organisers about doing his head with a straight, and he called my bluff. So I brought in my 8/8 Friodur, freaked people out with a demonstration of the HHT (ah the crowd, they love a show...), and shaved away.
Actually, I was initially so nervous about scalping the poor bugger that I had almost uncontrollable hand shake everytime I went near his head the first few tries. A few steadying breaths helped a fair bit.
The best part is, the shave-ee told me he has a couple of his grandfather's straights at home, and enjoyed the experience so much he wants to start using them himself.
No blood, no law suits, a new recruit to the straight fraternity, and an increase in street cred amongst my fellow academics. Who says there's no such thing as happy endings?

Thanked: 1587Yeah - I've got to say I won't be rushing to repeat the performance anytime soon. Very nerve-racking. I've got a lot of appreciation for people who do it, or did it, for a living.

I was talking to my old barber over the week. I actually went in and got my hair cut. According to him, if you can shave you own face then you should have enough skill to shave someone else. I am not claiming this is true, but just what he told me. As he has been a barber for over 30 years, I am inclined to believe him, though I am sure the nerves don't help haha.

Thanked: 1587It's probably true, and was certainly the principal I was using when I offered to shave this guy's head. But the initial confidence wasn't there - it's probably a good thing I was standing behind the guy so he couldn't see my hand shake on the first couple of strokes...

I've given my father (65 years old) 3 shaves with a straight razor. It is a different experience than shaving yourself. You don't get the exact feedback that you get when shaving yourself --you can't feel the pain when you're about to cut some skin. I 've found shaving while standing behind makes a big difference. Anyway good job James --- it takes a little guts to do it.

Thanked: 369James,
All I can say is - you got a big pair o' brass ones there.
In public and in front of a crowd to boot!
