Thread: Man's Times

The name of an old Bulgarian movie I just watched with my wife.

The Man has a profession - stealing women to get them married to anyone who pays him (~100 or so yrs ago). Honor, pride, etc. - the works, he's IT.

Bag over the head stealing the women and all (Borat + Pam Ander anyone? This was true in Bulgaria for sure

Of course, he falls in love with the last one, she also loves him and hates the moron husband who paid The Man... Eventually The Man gets killed by his teenage nephew for the same girl (after The Man gave her to him)

Why am I writing this - guess how the movie starts - damn straight, shaving, and not with a Gilette or a DE. Lather seemed a bit thick but the cherry on the cake was when he cut a mole and put salt on it to stop the bleeding. Hardcore stuff.

OK, now it gets even funnier: I saw another old BG movie called Matriarchat. All the guys but one are out on business and the women in the village do it all. So this one guy (who's the ranger) goes to have dinner with a good-looking married woman (husband is away) and after eating and drinking he starts to give her the googly eyes, to which she responds "Oh, leave me alone, NOT NOW" and they get inside a room...

I know what you're thinking - I was too - and then, I can't believe it, it turns out she's giving him a straight razor shave!!! Stropping, hand shave test, lather and all

was watching an old western, calaboose, that starred Jimmy Rogers. The storyline was that he and his sidekick TRIED to get thrown in the jug because the Sheriffs pretty daughter would try to rehabilitate the prisoners. In one scene in the cell he, (I believe it was Jimmy), was shaving and the mirror was hanging from a string in the center of the room...there he was following the revolving mirror and trying to shave with a straight. lol

"North by Northwest" with Cary Grant has a scene where he uses a microscopic shave brush and double edged razor when he's in the head. Hilarious!

Also if I remember correctly there was a shaving scene in "After the Thin Man" where the thin man was using a straight as well....course those were back in the 40's.
