Making a shaving kit based on brand.
So I snagged a Cattarangus (SP?) razor the other day because I thought it would be neat to match the strop backed green Cattarangus barber hone that I have. This got me to thinking it would be kinda neat to make up shaving sets based upon a brand. Some brands that have come to mind are Double Duck, Red Imp, and Primble. Anyone else know of any razor makers that also sold other parts of a razor kit? Strops, hones, brushes ect...?

Neat idea. C-Mon comes to mind and SRD.
Would companies like Sears or Simmons Hardware that put their name on products made by other companies count?Last edited by Leatherstockiings; 06-30-2014 at 04:23 PM.

I am of no help on any other makers than the ones you named. That being said, this sounds like a slippery slope into another AD where everything has to match....... Be careful matt

Thanked: 1184Koken, Lee, SRD, ummmmm just off the top of my head I haven't gone as far as finding what all each carried but I have at least 2 things from each myself. Think Barber supply era. DD would have the biggest selection of items :<0)

As along as the name was consistant and prominently featured on the item, I would count em. I don't think I would count the items that were made by a central company but labeled for someone else. As an example Double Duck supposedly had many different manufactuers over the years, but was very good at being a central "Brand".
Obviously, this could go down many different paths. Just throwing out some food for though. The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Thanked: 1184The whole industry was this way. Pieces of this and that from this company or that. PIKE < NORTON< SRD all different names. Who made the hones :<0) Bob Smith > He worked for all 3 names in the same factory. So just saying you could go by names on things and be just as safe if you went with different names same company made them all. Okay I got to stop now I am getting dizzy.

I can't walk into an antique store and not find several meat grinders and scissors with a Simmons Keen Kutter stamp. I bought a Keen Kutter barber hone over the weekend at an antique store. The owner is a Keen Kutter collector and the hone was in a display with other Simmons products with intact labels, not with the straights and safety razors.
