Thanked: 0The nerve of some people
So I was talking last night among my friends, and we were joking about shaving (August the Asian never has to, John just doesn't, and Jack is a Mock 3 guy). All of the sudden, I begin to get reamed by Jack's dad. I mean WOWZER! "You realize what you're doing is very dangerous" and "get yourself a safety razor, there's a reason they were invented". I wanted to just go at him but I didn't. I simply said "They can be dangerous in the wrong hands, but I've been doing this since I was 17, so I think I have a pretty good handle on it." I was furious, but I didn't let it show. Does anyone else have any stories like this?
I remember when my first razor came in the mail, my grandmother said "What the hell do you need that for? I bought you a perfectly good razor when you went to military school". That military school razor was donated to a girl my freshman year of college because she preferred guy's razors.

Since most of my life is spent at work, I have a number of co-workers who are in awe of the fact that I shave with a straight razor. In fact, most are amazed that I use a DE razor sometimes. I look at it as jealousy. I sell cars for a living. Most of my customers are surprised when I pull out my fountain pen to write up their order. I am definitely an oddball. I sell cars over the internet. I use a Treo 650 PDA phone. I wear a fedora. I use a fountain pen. I cook with cast iron. Modern and relic. I remember back in the mid-seventies when my parents built their house. They asked me what I wanted for a lighting fixture. Well, a kerosene lantern did not go over too well. Yet I still used one after the house was built. I like a good mix of old and new.

I can relate kd5tmu.
A good friend's mother (friend is female btw) is a bit of a safety nut. She utterly freaked when she found out about my straight razor habit...
Then her daughter told her about the quality of shaves, well I got a hug/kiss good bye that night and her husband was given an ultimatim... (poor bastard )
Start shaving with a straight or no more nookie!
Apparently she couldnt believe the quality after a full day at work.
That was 10 hours after my morning shave and it still felt better to her than her poor husband's right after his shave...

I don't let such people bother me at all. I know better than they do and I know that I know better. They don't know that I know better because they don't know any better, but when I tell them I know better they can at least see it in my eyes that I believe I know that I know better. It doesn't matter whether they know that I know I know better or even if they know that I know better because I know better and that's all that really matters.

What's more "dangerous", a straight razor you can use all your life, or plastic cartridges you throw into a landfill by the thousands to poison the planet?

My father is convinced that I will slice off my head one of these days.... and he does not hesitate to let me know it every time I talk to him. I just smile and say that it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Thanked: 0WOW
This is a great post guys
I need to show it to my mother and friends and so on
My mother allmost had heart attack when she heard I want to go into the "Straight realm"
Well
What do you think? why guys think it is a dangerous thing ?!
I personnaly don't think it is more risky then using my gun in the army, or cutting my meal with the knife or something like that
Hell, here in Israel, driving your car is more risky then using a straight for shaving your ALL body
