Thanked: 1Here's What I got on eBay
I confess I've got RAD....
Anyway, after my Stainless Pakistani "butter knife" disaster...
I decided I had to get my hands on some good, cheap, "shavers", or at least some inexpensive "working" razors that would also allow me to learn how to hone and strop.
My first "buy" was item #300093630595, a "Nice Geo. Wostenholm IXL straight razor with long tail" for $36.00 from an eBayer called stanontheprairie. It was clean, and in great shape, I 've started honeing and stropping it but it still needs some more honeing and stropping to be truely ready to give a good clean shave.
I got two razors from an eBay seller named altima55.
Auction # 160096107678, a "GULLATT STRAIGHT RAZOR EX COND & COMES SHAVE READY" for $32.99. I was doubtful how "shave ready" it really was, but this morning I had one of my better straight razor shaves with it. I confess that I did finish up the shave with my MUSH 3... I'm still a newbie...
Considering it would probably cost me $20.00 to get ANY razor honed to "shave ready" condition this worked out to be a good deal for me.
I also got Auction # 160096110949 "GERMANY STRAIGHT RAZOR EX COND & COMES SHAVE READY" for $23.50, which I think was a fine price. If it proves to be really "shave ready" also, then this razor was a good deal also.
Neither of his razors were "virgins", but they're real clean, no nicks, no rust, etc. and in great shape. The only real wear that they show is the honeing wear on the spine... but I guess if I'm careful I've probably got 10-20 years use from either of them...
My last eBay auction was from an eBay seller named xcasex, and I won auction item # 130092367572, a "Shumate Straight Shaving Razor w/box " Tungsten " NM" for $30.00. I'm hoping that it turns out to be a really nice razor. Even though it has probably never been honed, it is still very sharp, but has no hone marks on it at all. I'm sure that it's NOT "shave ready", but I can either practice honeing & stropping it or send it to Lynn or one of the other honemeisters....The box it came with was a mess, but since I'm looking for a good shaver, I'll buy a nice new replacment plastic box from Classic...
Comments please, Has anyone used any of these razors themselves?
I've heard that some guys have really lucked out and gotten really amazing deals on eBay, like "mint", cherry, unused, "virgin" antique collectible razors, still wrapped in paper in a "perfect" box for $10..... I'm sure that they're out there, but for me between $20-$40 for a good clean straight razor that's ready to shave is fine by me...I'm sure I'll do better eventually as I get more experience...
Now that I've got a handful of fairly decent "working" razors, I want to focus on learning how to shave with them!
All the best,

Very nice
I have yet to figure out who altima55 is ... but he must be around here. Every razor i have seen from him looks great, and he often beats me in auctions... his restorations are better than minre too.
i have a shumate like yours and it took a nice edge and is a great shaver.Be just and fear not.

altima 55 is known and always sells quality stuff. If you see an auction he has going you can be very confident that it'll be a good shaver.

Thanked: 1I shaved this morning with the other razor "GERMANY STRAIGHT RAZOR EX COND & COMES SHAVE READY" (it's stamped A. Domedion of Buffalo, N.Y on the handle.) that I got from altima55 (aka Bob Keyes). It shaves fine. thanks Bob!
I'm still having trouble getting a decent edge on the Shumate and the Geo. Wostenholm IXL... I still need need some major help in the honing and stropping department.
