Thanked: 580Interesting statistics on shaving
From a blurb for a book. "The Art of Shaving" by Myriam Zaoui
"The average man will shave approximately 20,000 times over the course of his life, spending the equivalent of 139 full days doing it. He will shave off 27 feet of hair, from a total of 30,000 whiskers on his face. And he will probably be doing something wrong. So he will suffer nicks and cuts, ingrown hairs, and rashes; his five o'clock shadow will arrive before lunch, his neck will be irritated and red, and he will get razor burn. Instead of reaping the benefits of a daily grooming regimen, he will only suffer. Needlessly. "
I roughly calculated you would have to shave every day for nearly 55 years to get to 20,000 so don't think that is entirely accurate of the average man. Started counting the whiskers on my face, but gave up at 11....
Totally agree that most men who shave will be doing something wrong.Into this house we're born, into this world we're thrown ~ Jim Morrison

I don't think that number is too way out there. I started shaving around 15 and though I have not always shaved everyday; I do imagine I will shave after the age of 70.....hopefully, I have that many shaves left in me lol! Now if I had a corporate job where a daily shave was necessary I can easily see making this number. How did you enjoy the book? Did you learn anything new about the art?

Thanked: 580Haven't read it. Just read the blurb. Think I can learn all I need to from SRP. Besides, the book is about the same price as a good vintage razor, so you know how that is gonna pan out har har.

Lets see - were you to assume that on average, a man begins shaving regularly at 20, and ends at 85, that's 65 years of constant shaving.
Now lets assume said man shaves 5 days a week 50 weeks of the year... how long would each shave be on average?
In order to get 139 full days of shaving in in 65yrs using my assumptions -> 65(50*5)*y = 200,160 min (139 days converted to min).
Hence, by his calculations using my assumptions, a dude who shaved 5 days a week for 65 years would be spending on average, 12 minutes a shave.
Seems reasonable?
Edit - Hmmm - average male life expectancy in the US is 77. Lets say the average guy in the states starts shaving at 12, and ends at 77, then the average shave would be 12 min assuming 5 shaves a week, 50 weeks of the year lol .Last edited by earcutter; 09-17-2014 at 02:06 AM.

earcutter, I lost my ability to do complicated math when I lost my virginity, don't know why. My favorite swear phrase these days is now, "What the square?"
"The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

I always wanted to make a book of people's virginity loss stories as mine was pretty interesting as well. I think it would be a hilarious set of stories.
