Redcane, do it in the spirit of this forum. If he wants to pay tell him it's on the PIF plan. He can do a 'good' for someone down the line and it doesn't have to be shaving related.

Just ask that if. and thats a big if . When he gets ready to retire or he doesnt use his CMON. would he please let you know first.
There is no pressure in that approach.
You didnt say give me. You said what you said. First shot.
If he is grimy let the chips fall where they may.
Dont give everything away.
Dont talk him through it.
In a few months to a year IF he uses it he will dull it and you will be his go to guy. This is all upside for you.
Oh you need it sharpened?? Sure I usually charge .... and let it play out. Carpenters and Plumbers dont work for free. They do random acts of kindness. This is yours.Your only as good as your last hone job.

Thanked: 1184If you can sharpen yours and get a comfortable shave you can do the same for him. Gain a little confidence along the way. Go for it.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

You have a great chance to spread some good deeds. I know your unsure about it, but take your time and you should be fine. Like Geezer said, make sure and hone it like he will touch it up (tape or no tape). Let us know how it goes.

Men, just a follow up. Plans fell through with our 0830 last Wednesday meeting. Hopefully we can meet up sometime after I get back from vacation. Un foreseen business that needed to be addressed. Stuff like that happens. I will be sure to post pictures as well as let you know how it went.

Lend a hand where you can my friend! As a barber I'm very thankful for the help that I received and am receiving from my mentors. We all have a starting point with this age old procedure. Tell him what you knoW. The people here can help with the rest.

The answer to this is simple. This barber cuts your hair doesn't he? And I bet he charges you for that service doesn't he? Ok, back to the barter system - the barber barter system if you will. Either hone his straights for him, or better yet, teach him to hone his own straights for free, then let him cut your hair for free. Sounds like a wonderful symbiotic relationship. Now if I can just figure out how to get my barber to cut my hair for free (with my dignity intact)!
Give a man a fish and he eats today. Teach a man to fish and he eats every day. The unwritten part of this proverb has been lost over time; "and his wife will hate you for life."If I told you I was a liar, would you believe me?
