Canada.....
I am going on holiday to Canada (Toronto) soon...
Are there any shops worth visiting or any barbers worth going to for a shave?
Regards
Tristan

Im sure Ilija will pipe in here as soon as he see's the post but you can get a shave in T.O. for $40.00 CDN or about $35.00 US. There is a T&H shop downtown somewhere and I know the address will show up in here soon or you can get in online.

OK, I googled it for you, Truefitt & Hill 40 King St. West, Toronto Ontario Tel. 416-214-4646 / There is a price list on the web site at www.truefittandhill.ca but on my last visit to the site I remember the price for a shave was $40.00 / They also have complete spa service's as well.

I know that a friend of mine was offered a job at a place where you blow like $100 for a shave and a haircut, but I'm not sure where.. She refused it because she was squeamish about giving str8 shaves : I'll ask her when I drop by her place (I should sometime soon).
You can get Proraso stuff at any larger Shoppers Drug Mart store. I'd skip the soap (about $7US after taxes) and get the pre/aftershave cream ($10US after taxes). Not sure about the shaving cream, but it's worth a try.
If you want to get some restoration/honing gear, Lee Valley (there's one in downtown and one in the north part of the west end) sells paddle strops, 0.5 micron Cr2O3 in stick form (perfect for paddle strops and bench hones), they sell the Hot Stuff CA and some lovely project woods. Look them up at www.leevalley.caLast edited by FiReSTaRT; 04-17-2007 at 11:13 AM.

Cheers Guys!
Things seem a little cheaper over there... $10 for cream seems pretty cheap (£5 to me!) It will be interesting to see if Truefitt & Hill's prices are any different to over here...
If you could get the address for that place Ilija that would be great! (I have a few weeks to justify the cost to myself anyway!)
I can see where all my spending money is going!

Its a small town (157000) in England about 50 miles south-west of London....
but for a small place it has a large reputation.... for being utterly boring!
and also:
1) For being a crap place to live (according to Idler)
2) For having lots of roundabouts (traffic circles I believe there called in the USA)
3) getting a mention in the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
4) having lots of 60's concrete (mostly gone now though)
5)appears in shakespear (henry IV part 2)

If you're going to be downtown, you HAVE to go to the Toronto Beauty & Barber Supply store.
They sell the famous JM Fraser shaving cream (CAD$10 for a huge tub) and Booster aftershaves (CAD$8 for a large bottle).
They also sell a small selection of Pinaud products at very reasonable prices.
Finally, if you use something like Brylcream on your hair, the Booster lanolin hair cream is very good stuff and about $8 for a large bottle.
Because they cater to the barber/stylist trade, their prices are very good.
The T&H store is nothing special and their prices are very high.

We just closed our Basingstoke office down after years and years of it getting smaller and becoming like an abandoned warehouse. In the end the entire warehouse had fewer than 10 people working there.
I gotta say, I managed to avoid visiting that office for 14 years, such was the infamy of the town!

there is surely no hope for me.....
