I would recommend learning to shave with a S.R. standing on my feet an in front of a mirror. S.R shaving requires more of a learning curve than a regular razor. I always wait 24 hrs before folding by blade back into the scales. I allow the insides to air dry completely. Some S.R. shavers even go so far as to use compressed air in a can to dry their scales after shaving.

Again . . . thanks for the comments, I am definitely going to have to rethink this. My initial plan was weekend shaves only for the Straight, while I learned, and got my technique squared away. Looks like I am going to have to add post shower shaves to that scenario because, yeah, the idea of slippery soapy hands on the tang and spine of my blade is likely to be something only SWMBO would encourage.
Probably after upping the insurance payout . . .

Thanked: 3191% alcohol will extract the moisture from the pivot area, I use it everyday to clean precision cutting tools.

By habit my showers are short and on the cool/cold side, so I work on keeping the prep going as soon as I get out.
Wet washcloth for 20-30 seconds followed by something to hold the moisture: Cremo, some other shave cream massaged in to the beard with some water.
Load the brush and then re-soak with the washcloth and face lather.
A little experimentation and you will find a system that works for you.
A straight in the tub/shower would be good plot line for s slasher movie, may not be the best way to learn the straight...just sayin'

Interesting comments all - I'd never thought about rinsing and faucet dings.
I use bicycle chain wax lube on the pivots, Repels water, lubricates, penetrates, and isn't messy.
Cheers, Steve
