Thanked: 0Stubble trimmer use questions
Got one of these Wahl stubble trimmers for Xmas:-
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/2440819.htm
Delighted with the build quality but, never having owned one before, am a bit confused by the how-to-use bit. The supplied instructions are very brief and in places contradict the advice on Wahl's website, so I contacted Wahl who just said "take a look on the web". Mmmm. Could anyone help with these questions:-
1. Wahl say the trimmer is suitable for shaving the neck and cheeks. This would be great if it worked but I find even with the comb removed there is growth remaining especially around the Adam's apple which is difficult with the trimmer. Have ended up just using a standard razor in these areas but is this best?
2. The idea of the guide comb determining the beard length is great but I'm finding that the angle you hold the trimmer at is making a huge difference to the cut. Are you supposed to hold it with the comb parallel to your face at all times or what?
3. With the comb removed is the idea to use it with the smooth steel plate against your skin always or not?
4. The supplied docs say always trim with the growth of the beard yet some videos on youtube show precisely the opposite. Which is best?

Thanked: 4826It sounds like the trimmer is for trimming your whiskers near the skin and it is not a shaver, not ever with the combs removed. It seems to me that the comb runs parallel to your skin. They are not alway the easiest thing to use but they do have their place.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 0I believe it is usable with the comb removed, as this would give the 0.5mm cut. The smallest comb length is 1mm. So I guess if I want my neck/cheeks cleanshaven then I'll just have to continue shaving them as normal.
Anyone have any knowledge re the other questions?

Angle is a big decider, by keeping the comb parallel to the skin it will ensure the set length. By changing that angle you can adjust accordingly. These are designed to only go so close, not smooth shave. You can flip it over and not have even the 0 guard to get a touch closer but it can lead to razor burn and ingrown hairs. I use one to trim my beard and for tight places on haircuts, but to get anything closer than stubble you'll need a razor.
