    Unhappy Doc forbids str8 shaves

I'm strictly enjoined from using my right shoulder for the next month or so following the rotator cuff surgery yesterday. Temporarily lacking a right arm means no perfect shaves for a while. While it's feasible to shave the face with just my left arm, I can't strop with my left and refuse to get a Feather for just a few weeks' use. The safety razors will fill the gap in the mean time.

Get your wife to hold the strop, and then slowly strop using the left.
It'll be a good exercise for your left hand. See it as a learning opportunity.

EDIT: Or try to borrow one for a couple of weeks from one of our fellow SRP'ers.
I'd lend you one if I had one. I do have a shavette, but I am out of blades and have trouble finding them.

The wife option is out, as I am single and live alone. I really don't want to risk my razors and strops with a temporary work-around. My 'other' razors that I used just for a change of pace (and to remind me how superlative a str8 shave was) will become my temporary main shavers. What truly sucks about this impairment is how it affects the rest of my life: typing, dressing, etc...

Just think of how good it will be to get back to using a Str8!
Might also be a good time to browse Ebay for some really good deals. It is getting to be the slow time of the year for razor sales (summer and all that). Just picked up 4 razors and an Escher at a flea market yesterday. You might want to give that a try!

Wayne, if you want, I'll send you a Feather portable and some Derby blades (just waiting for the blades to arrive next week, maybe even tomorrow).
I bought it to try it out (it arrived on Friday) and see how well they copied the Gillette Tech design. It's dang near identical and a great shaver. I've just been looking for an excuse to give it away as I already have a MINT Tech that I picked up at an antique shop, so I don't need two identical razors.
PM me your shipping addy and I'll be more than glad to swing some your way. They should arrive within a week.
