Default A Real Old School Shave from a Barber who Knows How

Cut to the chase. I found a barbershop today that offers up a hot towel shave unlike anything I have ever experienced before. This is the sort of procedure I've seen only in movies. First, the hot towel application (twice) followed by pre lather lube then onto the warm lather. Next comes the most methodical multiple pass shave I have ever dreamed possible performed by a pair of hands in which I could feel 50 plus years of shaving technique pulsing throughout each finger. Finally finishing with a cold towel, face and upper body rubdown (to help get circulation going again after sitting in the chair) application of what felt like an alum block and finally post shave balm. Know what? I even left some of the steps out, but this is getting wordy. Oh, not a shavette fan? Not to worry, he will use your razor if you prefer. Not a nick; no razor burn. this was without a doubt one of the best experiences of my adult life. almost forgot...$12.00!!! That's all!!

This was my morning at Quintero's Traditional Barber Shop in Indian Harbour Beach, FL. If any of you guys want a shave experience rapidly fading from existence but will demonstrate just how it was back in Grandpa's day even if you have to drive a couple-three hours to get there, you MUST visit Carlos and Pedro for a shave experience you will never forget. One other thing, they offer a really nice haircut too!!

The way you describe it sounds like you had a great mini vacation in the Barber chair. I hope you tipped him well for $12.

ive been meaning to go get a shave at a barber shop .. there are a few by my house that offer the experience ... a new place actually just opened but it kinda looks like a new age fancy high dollar place instead of a good ol shoot the breeze shop ... my tattoo guy and i were just talking about how some of the barber shops and tattoo parlors have went to this new school thought process and they have just remolded the tattoo shop to resemble that barbershop feel .. i know when away from the more city areas around here you still come across shops that look like they did 50yrs ago and if i was to go to barber school i think thats the type of shop i would want to have ...

Can't beat $12.00 for that kind of treatment with a stick. One of the last of a dying breed. You're lucky to have found him.

Around here, what they call an "American" shave tends to go for about four to five times your $12. No kidding. And it's usually done by a woman in her late twenties, with a shavette. Needless to say I've avoided those places. Not that women in their late twenties wouldn't be able to give a decent shave, but odds are against them, as 'hair styling specialists'.

I am lucky to have a barber shop near me in Tucker, GA that does a similar shave. 5 Towels (4 hot, pre-shave application, lather with hot towel, 1 cold, alum block, and a splash of afterhave) - $12 for about 45 min of zen-like shaving. Will use your brush/soap/blade if you so wish.

Best therapy you can get for a bad day.

I quite often find myself in Decatur. What's the name of the shop in Tucker? Might be worth a visit😉

Wow! $12! I found a place about 30 miles away that will do a shave for $30. Planning on making the voyage there just to how they approach my beard.

    Great deal!

Now I have a reason to go to Florida. That's great that found the place.

Second on the name of the place in Tucker, please?
I'm in Atlanta at least once a month and would love to try it out.
