    Default How It's Made---Razors

This Thursday @ 5:00 pm eastern time the Science Channel has How It's Made with a segment on Razors at the Dovo Co. I've seen this before and it is rather short but interesting.

It show their idea of the factory "shave ready" edge quite clearly.

I think all straight shavers need to see how a blade is manufactured so each of us will have a viable understanding regarding the proper function and use of their straight razor.

Very important to understand how to use your equipment. Functional adeptness makes for a more comfortable shave. Very much like a craft, we need to learn as much about this craft as possible for best results. JMO. js

As is typical, they got some of the terminology wrong, but one thing that we did learn is that even with shallow hardening steel in very thin cross sections, the need to get from the heat source to the quench in .000009 nanoseconds is a bit exaggerated. They have time to knock the lead off between the austenizing bath and the quench. It is interesting that in these days of every cautious environmental and workplace safety laws, Dovo and other folks in places like Solingen and even Sheffield are still able to use those lead pots.
