Default When You Talk Shaving With Coworkers.

That moment when you bring up shaving in the break room, and your coworker gives you that "half blank, half astonished" look. You ask what their routine consists of, they describe it, and the smart-ass part of your brain conjures up something like this....

Conventional wisdom is, "Don't bring up shaving with anyone except the man in the mirror and SRP members." I don't understand why cartoons are funny anymore and I may be a bad resource; I haven't worked for nine months so I don't have coworkers, don't remember much about work, or coworkers or customers or products. I do remember, oddly enough, blank looks (at best) and some borderline revulsion (at worst) when I mentioned razors to people outside the community.

I did find a decent Swaty three line barber hone the other day but I wouldn't mention that to any civilians out there, either. People don't get it. I am just happy my wife rubs my chin now and then and smiles.

I tell them that I use straights but I steer the subject to how easy and cheap a safety razor can be. If they show any interest, I offer to loan them one of several razors I keep available for that purpose, along with a variety of blades to try.

This has been so successful lately that we soon are going to have a Lathering Gathering to give 5 or 6 converts a chance to try a variety of brushes and soaps!

I think I have my best friend at a tipping point in terms of "converting". I am planning on suggesting we take his son for a hot towel shave experience in August for the lad's 18th birthday. I figure reminding my friend of how good this all can be will be the final push that starts him down the road to shaving nirvana . . . plus. I'll gift him a DE if he wants to give it a go.
