Thanked: 2027Looks like an intersting read,only makes sense that African americans would have their there own barbers.
I will never forget sitting in a barbers chair in the late 50s when an african american walked in to my white barbers shop.
He was told to get outCAUTION

I remember this issue very clearly. Barbers responses were that they were never trained to cut these individuals hair which was of course very different than "ordinary" folks. I grew up in NYC and black barbers cut black folks hair plain and simple.

Thanked: 315Interesting topic, but the first two sentences of the back cover synopsis seemed strange to me.
It basically says black barbers of the time has complete freedom of speech in their communities because their white patrons were afraid of getting their throats cut. Seriously?
