So I am restoring a DD Goldedge (big surprise I know) anyway, if you guys had the choice, would you prefer the original scales or the colored acrylic.
If it is the acrylic, which color?
I would like to know what everybody is thinking on this matter.
    Thanks,
    Ed

My vote would be for the original. But then, for me, I would opt for the original scales 99% of the time if given a choice

Original, although duck scales are known for cell rot. Is there an acrylic equivalent to cracked ice or something similar?

See now that is what I was thinking. Cell rot is troubling. I don't know of any acrylic that looks like the cracked ice unfortunately.

I get an acrylic that has a nice pearl color to it, rather be new and reliable than original and completely rotted away...

Always original..."first, do no harm"! I like vintage razors the way the maker wanted them to look.

I made a post similar to this once. I would expand on the " Way the maker wanted them to look" part of your comment though.
Given the fact the Ducks had the most bling of any other razor I have seen ( On a regular production basis) I don't think Perlson or Bresnick would roll over in their graves if they knew what we (as restore guys) do with them. In fact I would bet that if they had the choices we have today the price of ducks would be at least triple. I mean you buy a Goldedge you have one. Many differences in blade but they all look them same as far as scales go. Take that and multiply it by the choice of colors we have today and it would be a lot harder to collect 1 of each not to mention make up your mind what color you like the most. You can't tell me for 1 second that Pearlduck co. wouldn't have made blue or red, white and blue Goldedges IF they could have.

It all boils down to original condition 66 Chevelle or one with a giant scoop on the hood :<0) I say " get 1 of each if you can afford it." :<0)

And Chev to answer 1 of your other questions , I started with this color ........... I have a few more that are all original and I may have already rescaled a few into hot rods but , a. it's not necessary at this time and b. Time. I don't have enough of it :<0)

Just DON"T let the darn thing sit in a box and rot away like so many of them already have !

BY the way ,, I have searched for days weeks and months all over for anything that I think looks close to the original Reaper and Goldedge/Wonderedge pearl scales. Nothing matches so if you put a look close kind on your get no cigar from me :<0) It's been re-scaled and it almost look original ??
I have even gone so far as to ask manufactures if they could/would make it for me. I won't get into the astronomical prices or technical jargon excuses for why they won't but lets just say I still look around once in awhile and that's where that's at.

Keep your eye open for a thread on a hot rod Reaper, coming to a post near you soon :<0)

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Ok, I'm like everyone else...my Goldedge has the original cracked ice scales. They're beautiful but in a kinda "follow the cowd" commom sort of way.
I vividly remember your post of the Duck'Lorange. Absolutely killer! If you were to do another in clear acrylic I'd like to see it in blue or purple.
Original is absolutely awesome, but...Why not dare to be different?
    Just my 2 cents.
