razor stand idea
Every now and again I get a wild hair about building or doing something lol.
As I've posted in the Razor Herd thread, I'm up to 7 straights now and am in need of some type of storage for them. What I've dreamed up is a stand simular in function to a pipe rack. The project should be simple enough.
What I'm planning on using is:
2 clear plastic cd blanks (those that come in the bulk cd spindles)
approximately 4 inch piece of 5/8 or 7/8 dowel rod
gorilla glue
Basically I would drill several holes around the perimeter of the cd's, stain the dowel, and use one cd blank for for the base the other for the top.
Does anyone foresee any problems in this setup? When it get's cooler I might get the welder out and put together some from horseshoes.
Anyway, would like to hear some feedback on this project.

Thanked: 0I would stack four or five at the bottom and use a forstner bit to bore the holes so they only have a depth of 2 or 3 CD's (depending on if you have 4 or 5 at the bottom). Other than that, sounds like a wonderful idea. Remember to sand or trim the raised rings in the center of the CD's before you stack and drill, and use a drill press. If you want, I could gather what I have and make a proto-type to see if there are any problems you might have to look out for. I always like to use my drill press. Haha!

Sounds good. Have been re-thinking the idea and may change it just a little.
Am thinking instead of glueing the cd's into place, cutting a couple of inch long pieces of dowel and forming a knob of sorts, then one could shoot a screw into the end to hold it. Add some feet to the bottom and it should be fairly stable.
