Thanked: 0If you are ever in Berlin...
...I can recommend a trip to 1001 Seife (soaps) and The Different Scent, which are handily just around the corner from each other. 1001 seife has lots of great shaving soaps, some unique self made ones and one that can only be got in two other places in the world. The Different Scent has just about everything soap, creme, aftershave balm and accessories wise. All the names and products that are mentioned here every day are there, as well as a few that are not. The best part is that you can take the wife/girlfriend to either shop as they sell womens stuff too!!!
Recommended and well worth a trip. They both have websites, but I don't know the policy on so openly giving details for other people...

Aaah, shame. I was there only 3 weeks ago! First time ever in Berlin. What a fantastic city. You wouldn't even know the wall had been there. I found the old East part way more interesting and beautiful than the West. Was on a 2-day business trip so only managed to do a little sightseeing.
Did those shops also do shaving cream?

Thanked: 0Berlin is rapidly becoming one of my fave cities in the world - I am there so often and i see someting new every time.
Do they do creme??? My total shopoping list was;
Arko creme
Geo Trumpers Skye aftershave
Virgilio Vaolbra shave creme/soap
Tabula Rasa Soap
Cyril Salters Fresh Mint
and I could have done that 4 times over. The Different Scent alone must have had 30 different shaving cremes. Heaven.

Berlin what a fantastic city, and it has had such a colourful past.
I was lucky to be able to visit in the mid seventies, and the uniqueness of going through checkpoint Charlie and all those wonderful old memories of a bygone era. It was such a divided city in it's day and it just had so much history and stories attached to it.
In more recent times I have been back there again on several occasions, and the last visit I spent about a month there. It of course has changed quite dramatically compared to days gone by, but it still has that Bohemian or Avant-garde (probably two opposing descriptions there) type of lifestyle, and I find it so fascinating. I remember there being lots of drugs, sex, and alcohol not necessarily in any particular order.
My memories may be very highly affected by the fact of romance there for me, and without going into the nitty gritty Sheesh is all I can say. I had met her on the internet and we had conversed for quite some time sharing photos and all of that stuff. One thing led to another and I ended up visiting. And yes we have all read the horror stories of people meeting on line and then people not being what or who they say. But for us it was just the best time ever........
She was a lot lot younger than me at the time but she was a well educated person who had completed university and was just going with the flow of life and having a good time. And she was absolutely drop dead gorgeous also which helped. Geez this sound like a romance novel doesn't it.
I met her parents and family and they all made me feel very welcome. They lived in the East on the other side of the wall and they had such interesting stories to tell. As a matter of fact they still live in a small suburb out of Berlin which had it's own wall built around what would have been then a village in it's day. Her parents were living in a brand new apartment when I was there and the apartment looked out at this wall which must have been 25 feet high. There was just enough to drive a car between the apartment and the wall which they faced. But do you think I can remember the name of the suburb or town, I have racked my brain and I just can't remember.
Anyway those are my memories of Berlin and I apologise for getting a bit carried away with all those things that came flooding back into my mind.
Cheers
John
