I agree with this. From the time I fill my scuttle with hot water til the time I slap talc on my face with a neckduster, every single aspect is fun for me.

The feeling I get when I take a razor that I found old, neglected, dirty and unhappy and then took home and turned into something capable of giving a tremendous shave. The other positive is the good feeling you get knowing that you have the skills to both hone and use a straight razor - skills that our grandfathers took for granted but were lost in our father's generation (I'm a 1955 boy so the generations will vary for others). Not wishing to denigrate in any way those guys who don't hone their own razors but, sooner or later, you will hear the call of the hones.

I enjoy the part of my shave where I successfully go through one of my challenging spots and get it perfectly. That happens most of the time now, but it's still satisfying.

The sound of whiskers being removed by my blade careening thru them with extreme prejudice while I feel nothing b/c the blade is so sharp and the touch so light it feels a feather across your cheek. I know....I know...a little melodramatic but it is a great sound!

I enjoy the ritual itself, and ongoing attempt perfect it.

I also enjoy choosing the combination of elements that make each shave a little different. The blade, the brush, the soap.. and the depth of variety that can be found in choosing those elements.

It is the combination of the hunt, and the kill so to speak.

If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.
