Default Question for those in the know.

I have a very nice looking German razor that gives me a little problem. Where my thumb and finger hold it is very slick and some times the razor slips. should i go for a temp. repair like soft tape when i shave with it or send it to someone that can remedy the problem permanently or can it be done and still look good. I know my limitations so i shouldn't attempt it. any thoughts out there.

Try changing your grip. Hold the blade between your thumb and forefinger. Just like you would a chefs knife.

There have been a few guys that have put jumps on a finished razor by using a dremel and cut off wheels. If it is beyond your comfort zone and you really like the razor, then send it out. I don't think it is particularly technical, just a meter of getting the spacing right and watching the working temperatures. I have not idea who to send it to but I'm sure it would not take long checking with some of the good restoration guys around.

It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Have you tried simply wetting your fingers and rubbing them on an alum block right before shaving?
