    Default oiling DE

What is the proper way to oil a DE razor, as well as a str8?

    Matt-

I use a mineral oil on my straight, which is "baby oil" without the fragrance. You can find it at most organic or natural supermarkets.

DE I can't really speak to. I do have a Merkur HD, but never felt the need to oil it. If I was storing it long term I would take the two pieces apart and give it a light coating with the mineral oil.

I find mineral oil works best for my herd of razors, but if you want to go all out you may want to pay up for either the Dovo or Tuf-Glide lubricants on classicshaving.com . Probably a lot better for long-term storage.

    Matt,

The DEs are usually coated with nickel, so they don't rust like a straight. I use a couple of drops of mineral oil in the mechanism, usually one in the top and one from the bottom. Then I open and close the razor a few times.
