Question about customs
I have access to a forge and was wondering if steel rebar would be an acceptable material to make a razor in theory. Thank you in advance for all replies.

You would first need to determine what type of steel the rebar is made of. Someone made a knife using rebar but I can't say how it held an edge.

Kinda what i was thinking. I actually just watched a YouTube video of a guy making a cheese knife from rebar,i know a razor and a cheese knife are very different but in principal it seemed like it would work. What kind of steel would be best or at least decent to use

many around here will use O1 tool steel. I think there is a lot of information on it, and is one of the easier steels to heat treat.

No absolutely not.
Rebar is only mild steel. It will have a very low carbon content which cannot be hardened. Kinda like railroad spikes.
They're fun to play with and make ornamental things but for knives and edged tools it cannot be used.
If you want to repurpose old steel, use files. Old files will have a very high carbon content and can successfully turned into edged tools.
EDIT: youll often find old Nicholson files at yard sales in old toolboxes.
If they're a bit rusty they can be bought for half a dollar or soTil shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
