actually if you shave every day your beard will be thicker and it will grow up faster. it's the case for me.

Every day is just not necessary. I shave twice a week. I like to let it grow out some before I mow it down. But if my appearance demanded it, every other day would suffice. The day after there is still nothing visible.

Very interesting thread here. I've now been straight razor shaving for nearly two years. One spends a fair amount of time just getting used to the newness of it all, the shaving, the equipment, the techniques, the stropping, the honing, etc. Somewhere around the one year mark comfort with it all starts to settle in; right hand, left hand, the 3 passes, the neck, the chin. The nicks, cuts, and blood become less and less.
Something I've noticed, and commented to my wife on, is how I classify my need for a shave. I presently have the 24 hour shave, the 34 hour, and the 48 hour. With improvement of my shaving skills, I'm finding the 24 hour shave is too soon. Just not enough whiskers have grown back for a comfortable shave, even for this 57 year old grizzled face. I suppose this could be measured as success. I have arrived as a competent straight razor shaver. However if I go 34 hours till my next shave, I'm saying to myself, I really need to shave. The 48 hour shave happens only because I couldn't get home or to a truck stop with shower to shave earlier. By then, of course, I'm a whiskered mess in dire need, desire of the blade.
Also I've noticed if I have too many 24 hour straight razor shaves in a row, my face does become tender. Strangely I've found myself rubbing my face at the end of the day, ready to head to the truck stop showers and say, nope, not tonight.

I shave daily unless its my weekend. Being a driver my weekends don't come along as soon as everyone else's. All drivers know what I'm talking about. We have 8 day weeks. But that's another story.
In my opinion, I find that a shave at 1.5 or 2 days growth shaves better but I think it has to do with the whiskers being longer and not quite so stiff to the skin. This allows for easier cutting. JMHO.
My wife asked me one time why I shave every day as from her view it didn't look like I needed a shave as I was headed to the bathroom. I told her to feel my face. She don't feel my face very often as we have been together over 20+ years. She then could tell that yes, I needed to shave! The grey whiskers don't show up as much but you sure can feel them. Its like a short wired brush! It's just Sharpening, right?

And I see the two first people to add likes to my post and drivers. Roll-on drivers and keep the shinny side up!

So just an update. I skipped a day. Then shaved yesterday. As I figured from previous experience, it was a much better shave. Going to continue the every other day shave for a week and see how that goes. Still have yet to get the softness and smoothness on my face that I get after three days growth. Remind y'all this is just an experiment for myself. I have plateaued on my shaving results and I am messing around to find another ah ha moment.

I tell other drivers: "if my truck smoked like that, I'd park it and have it fixed"!It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 1081Like everything in this sport its about what suits you and your mug. Little experiments like your doing go a long way to shaving nirvana. I shave with 2 passes every day, even if its bbs I still need to shave the next day. If I shave every other day I get irritation, go figure.

started out shaving every 3 days then went to every 2. seems for me i got less tugging that way. Figured that whiskers got tougher the longer the grew?
