From my research it seems that the first month is geared torwards getting a new wet shaver started. De, brush, soap, blades etc. then most seem to offer more soaps and aftershaves the following months. I don't truely need monthly supplies. I have been wet shaving long enough that the collection is established. Like rezdog I use the same soaps and creams regularly. I was mainly interested to see if anyone was using one and if they thought the products that were received made it beneficial.

I just went and looked at them and there was no soap of the month club. Yes the first month on all of them was setting up a new wet shaver with a DE razor brush and all and then blades and other accruements monthly after that. There were none that offered a package that seemed to make sense for me, but if you were just getting started, they may be ok. Part of that would depend on the DE razor, hopefully it is quality and not too aggressive. I know nothing about them other than the fact that they scare me.

It seems to me that there is more potential to take advantage of a new shave than to provide much value. You don't need to pay a premium for someone to decide what razor and blades to sell you.

You can get a vintage Gillette DE razor for $10-$15 and a brush/puck/bowl for $12 and $100 Astra SS blades for $11.

What is the "club" going to do for you?

I have seen the type of club where you join and fill in different information about yourself and how often you shave. Then they send you shaving cream and blades so that you never run out. I think the idea behind these was to combat the prices of the cartridge razor blades more than anything else.

For me I like to try different soaps and after shaves etc, but before I do I like to go and have a smell first. For the discussion side of the clubs I get all I need right here at SRP.

I am not sure what a straight razor user would get over and above that from a monthly club. I would be interested in your findings though if you do join one.
