Colonel Conk's Stuff
Anyone have anything nice to say about Col.Conk's stuff? I found a local tobacconist who sells a wide selection of the stuff.
Looks like the razors are made by Dovo, so they're probably good quality. But specifically I was talking about the badger brushes, the soaps and the creams, and the strop/stone combo. (Looks like an oilstone).
Any opinions?

I am using only creams now, but I've used their soaps, and I think they're great! Really liked the amber and the almond. I have no clue about the rest of their gear.
By the way... You don't happen to live in or near Asheville, NC do you? I discovered the tobacco store in the mall here sold straights and wetshaving supplies about a month ago.

Ive used Soaps/Brushes/Mugs from them. I wasnt to keen on the Stone of theirs, but everything else was great. I always loved the smell of the almond soap, and just had an order of Mama Bear's Delivered that has their fragrance beat. But yeah, i would recommend alot of their stuff.

I found the stone works well in about the 6K category, absolutely not a good finishing stone but it has some potential. The rest of the stuff OK. Not so sure about the razors, but they might be ok. For the price I think you could do better though.

I use their soap regularly. My first brush was a boar and second brush was a best badger from them. I believe they are made by Vulfix. I have no complaints.

Thanked: 150My razor is actually one that came with the Col. Conk kit of a strop (linen and leather), the stone, and the razor. it is the only razor i have, other than a cheap $5 razor i purchased at a flea market to practice honing. (i have not gotten up the courage to try and shave with it, and probably won't for quite a while). While i have nothing with which to compare the razor, it does a great job for me.

I must admit to being a fan of Conk products myself.
I've tried several brands and they seem to be the one I keep going back to. My personal favorites are the Amber, Almond and Bay Rum soaps, I have a badger brush and mug from them that my dad got me for Christmas I really like them as well. I also tried the Almond after shave balm but could take or leave it.

I've not tried the soaps, but the Almond soap is probably the best almond scent on the market. And the soap ain't bad!

Thanked: 335These darned ebay sidebars are wonderfully disconcerting. Where was I? Oh, yeah, Colonel Conk. With a recent order to our good Mr. Ayar at Vintage Blade, included a bunch of the good Colonel's soaps: Bay Rum, Almond, and Amber. I have tried all and must admit to a certain club handedness in generating marvelous lather. I like the fragrance of the Bay Rum, prefer the lather that I get from the Almond, and am darned if I can figure out how to get the Amber to give me a lather which doesn't congeal on my face. I accept full responsibilityfor all shortcomings as I am newly returned to cut-throat shaving after 35 years of beard. All that said, I find myself returning to the inexpensive and locally available William Marvey soap. It smells good, lathers well for my inexperienced slatherings, and keeps the whiskers in check and most of the blood internal.
With growth in various of the AD's, I'm sure that my horizons will expand, but I just bought a tubeful of Wm. Marvey cup soap wafers so change there may be a while in coming. Hopefully the others in the group can keep me informed as to what I may be missing.
By the by, I honed my own yesterday and shaved with it this morning. It cut most of the whiskers presented to it and left no red in evidence of its passing. I feel a certain smugness from that exercize, but wonder how colorful will be the falling of the next shoe...
