    Default Watchband Stink...

I've had many a watchband made of leather that after a year or so starts stinking, and stinking bad. What could I do to get the funk out of my watchband and get on with my life?

Perhaps cleaning it with saddle soap followed by treatment with mink oil?

Try treating it with Ozone if you have the chance. There's a big chance that the stink is coming from germs IN the leather. Ozone and ionisation (most especially Ozone) would kill those germs and make the watchband a hostile enviroment for them. Try not to do it too long thought since Ozone oxidizes heavily (and that means your leather will deteriorate faster while it's being blasted with Ozone. so it will only last 200 years instead of 210)

Buy a new strap. They're not meant to last for ever.

I have the same problem with mine. That sort of vinegar smell right?

I just change the strap every year. Its a beautiful watch, and so every year it gets to look even newer. The only problem is that it needs to be sent to the manufacturer for a new strap which costs me...

I've cleaned and conditioned my band with this method as well. I works really well for maintenace, but eventually it's time to buy a new band.

Why not just buy a new strap and change the buckle over? Surely it can either be removed with a springbar tool, screwdriver or poked out through the lugs?

Can't say I really have this problem as I only wear watches for a day here and there so I'm always wearing a different one and I sometimes change the straps just to see a different colour or type.
