Seems like it would be a little difficult to use but its kind of a cool idea. His sharpness test is original. I'm certain the theory has some validity.
I think you'd have to learn how to use it just like any other stone system.

I like the idea of the razor being held firmly it would be more use for restoration than honing in my opinion.Paul

It is a good idea,
But with this kind of stuff I would be really scared of while I place the blade on gently that it would SNAP to the magnet and chip the damn blade. I would be uber pissed for that..

A member (Bill Ellis) I believe, has made some mock ups like these for restoration. You can talk with him if you are interested in them.. It is with 4 or 5 rare earth magnets just like in the design of this one, but they are just circular ones placed in a mount instead of a WHOLE base being the magnet.

The guy who makes and sells these(Keith De Grau) is a excellent metalworker/honer,he is also the guy who owns Hand American.He is an excellent guy to do business with.Bill Ellis recommends his scary sharp system on his video.Im going to buy one of these systems Best Regards Gary
