ham radio str8 net?
Hi guys,
I've noticed we've got a few hams around, what do y'all think about
getting together once a week to chat about razors on hf? I previously brought this idea up as an off-topic reply in the venders corner, but decided it should be in a differant location, to be fair to our venders. In the origional post I did have one positive vote, Rhino, a new member said he would be interested in joining us as soon as he upgrades. Not sure how to post a poll on here, so ...
What say you?

I'd like to learn more about the ham radio world in general. Back in the '70's, I was a bigtime CB user (yeah, I know, what a cartridge razor is to a straight so is a CB to a ham!). I'm sure a good number of folks from the CB world moved into ham radio operation. Any suggestions or links for research?

The American Radio Relay league (www.arrl.com) has a wealth of info, but there may be better sites. I haven't been active for many years, so I'm behind the times for sure.

wow, what a response. My isp died not long after I posted and just came back on...so what time, day does everyone suggest? I'm pretty much available 24/7 now, but I know that some of you do work, also frequency?
Like azjoe said, the arrl.org is a good place to start, also http://www.eham.net is another one or http://www.qrz.com is another. QSL.com does have practice tests for those wishing to upgrade or take their first test. Licenses are all code free now, so unless you just WANT to learn code you don't have to. I think you can look up ham radio clubs in your area as well as testing sessions on the arrl site.Tests are easy, multiple choice and the question pool can be downloaded and studied with the correct answers. So easy a caveman could do it.

should've said ham radio operators lol Sorry Lou, amateur radio is almost as addictive as straight razors It starts out with just an ht (handi talky), then it progresses to a better antenna, then you decide that 2 meter radio isn't enough and you have to have a dual bander and of course another antenna. Finally you wind up with several antenna's, called an antenna farm, and several radio's, plus connectors, coax, mics, battery chargers, etc etc etc.
