Thread: I made a convert?

So my neighbour recently started using DE`s and when I heard I mentioned he should get a good brush, rather than use his hand with canned gel or foam He got kinda excited and tried to convert me telling me the advantages over the multiblade cartridge stuff you find in pharmacies. It was entertainiing so I let him go on a bit before I told him I was way ahead of him and also used straights. This got him mroe excited so I invited him over to take a look and offgered to lend him one to try out. (Also a chance to show off the new addition). I lent him 2 gold dollars one with a decent edge the other I told jhim to tape the edge and practice on a bit to figure out the moves. I also lent him my long handled black beauty DE so he could try out an adjustable instead of whatever cheap chinese thing he was using. I know he has tried the straight on his cheeks bit havent gotten an actual reaction on everything yet. I do get the impression he has been bitten by the bug though

That's good, most aren't even mildly interested when they find out i use a straight, the others think i'm crazy. I would start them out on a DE (if i could get anyone interested that is) and then maybe after a while start talking straight. Any way keep up the good work. Maybe we can shave the world one shaver at a time!

I have given away a lot of brushes and soaps, just trying to get people to look beyond the canned goo. Many people are interested after their first soap and keep going. I consider those converts too. A few of them have already been DE shavers.

Have never tried to convert anyone. If someone showed heavy interest I would not hesitate to help. OTH nobody has shown that much interest so far. Their loss not mine.

Over the past 10 years I have converted several from cartridge to DE"s; brother-in-law, brother and 2 cousins but when I mention straights they look at me like I'm crazy (actually I am) and say things like "are you suicidal?" or "you'll cut your throat!" or "are you nuts?". I quickly shut them up when I reply "well, real men shave with straight razors!"

If nothing else I urge people to try using a brush, its easy, cheap and doesn't scare anyone like a straight or even a DE (changing the blades seems to scare a lot of people)

I still can't believe my friend told me he is to scared to use the straight I gave him.

I think it’s the one thing that everyone can do that will make the greatest difference in the quality of their shave.
