    Default Willie Jacks' Barber Shop

Took a little ride a while back to a recommended muffler shop here in town in a really old Black neighborhood.
Had to kick around while exhaust was being performed on an old classic car. Walked around a bit and saw an old little barber shop. Went in and the place was pretty run down. Willie the Barber and a few friends were sitting about and I explained how I found it hard to pass by an old shop as I collected some of the things.

Willy was a spry 91 year-old little fella. Lightly complected and quite witty. Said he began to cut hair on that street when he was 16. His diploma showed he graduated from the local HS in '44.
He said he wished I had come earlier as he was winding his career down and had removed all the stuff plastering the walls. He wanted my number to see if I wanted his chairs. I told him I liked the older one and a sterilizer cabinet, but I already had too much stuff. We had a good time sitting and talking until the car was done.

A month later, he called me and asked me to come get the chair and cabinet. Gave me a silly price, so I offered more.
A friend rode with me and when we arrived, Willie wanted us to get another old chair out of his house down the road.
We went to look and wound-up getting it as well. Got them loaded and back to the shop. Very old chairs in need of fixing-up/restoring, but cool nonetheless. My friend was hooked so one will go to him.
Fun day with some local history.
Willy is a cool cat! I expect he will continue to kick around for a while longer.

That’s a pretty cool story Tom. I love finding interesting people, interesting stuff is way cooler when it comes with a great story. Thanks. I can’t wait to see the chairs done.

That's way cool, Tom.! Would love ta have a couple downstairs, in my man cave. I'd finally get rid of the ugly recliners I've got.

Very cool Tom. Its fun to find interesting folks. Looks like you got some work ahead of ya. I wouldn't have enough room in my place for an ols chair. But it sure looks like fun.

I'd swear if you turned a rock over in the m iddle of nowhere you'd find a gem of ssomething shaving related. Cool, neat, great find.

Those chairs remind me of my childhood. To keep me still while he shaved my neck,he’d say, “look down and read the words where your feet are.”
