Thanked: 3224How things work in China at times
I posted about a Gibbs replica adjustable DE being brought out in another thread. Heritage collection was bringing it out. Seems they have run into a glitch with the Chinese contract manufacturer and will not be bringing it out. It is interesting to note how Yaqi was able to also bring out a Gibbs copy. To see how the cookie crumbles on that one read post #28 in the link.

Thanked: 3215And that is just the beginning. A good friend was hired to design a water filtration system for a large US company. He did and made a working prototype. They sent it to China to a well know company to produce.
Every time he returned to China, the product would not work ,for a different reason. He ended up having to go to China every 2 weeks for 2 weeks at a time to try to get the product in production.
Turns out different parts were subcontracted and re-subcontracted to different vendors because they could produce the part cheaper, pennies or fraction of a penny. But they would alter the specs, to cut cost and the part would not work.
He did this for 2 years, before the company gave up. He was paid handsomely though and learned to speak Chinese. The product was never made.

yea, I know some folks who sold a crowd funding item made in China. The manufacturer in China kept making changes in the chemistry of the item for their own convenience without telling the folks here and when they got samples it didn't work. They had to send someone to China to ride herd on them so that the items parts construction and fabrication were followed to the tee.

Thanked: 315Yeah, you if you want good quality you have to have people overseeing the production to ensure corners aren't cut. I guess the people making really good stuff there actually own the factories or have good relationships with the people working with the manufacturer.
Someone told me about a similar situation. When they kept complaining about the product not being made to their specs (the first examples they would receive would be fine) their contact there accused them of being impossible to work with.- Joshua

One of my clients works for a large manufacturer of seals and gaskets. They make products for all industries; automotive, oil and gas, heavy engineering are just some. The used to have factory close to here, but much of their production has now moved away from the UK to countries which can produce more cheaply. He said that the Chinese usually start out OK, but they then often change the product spec. without telling anyone. The world appears to have become addicted to cheap Chinese products. Once upon a time it was the other way around, we got the Chinese hooked on Indian Opium, maybe they're getting revenge for that.
