Newbie turns the corner - Thanks SRP
I was thinking last night, as I was doing touch ups on a few razors and honing three newly acquired razors ready for shave testing, that I've been straight shaving longer than I have been DE shaving. I started DE shaving back in January, straight shaving in April. Since then I've built quite the little shave den along with that a number of hones that I'm not afraid of anymore.
All of this would not have been possible without the help, expertise and encouragement here.
This is a great community. Thanks SRP!!"But you're not as confused as him are you. I mean, it's not your job to be as confused as Nigel. "

Thanked: 335BrianP,
I've never been hesitant to put steel to stone, so my farily recent joining SRP hasn't done much for me there. However, putting razor to hone is quite another matter and one which I may over the weekend been able to begin to solve. With applying Randy Tuttle's suggestion of honing an old Torrey on a coarse stone to get rid of the "dead" steel, I was able to get rid of what I would identify as micro-chipping and got a decent shave from the razor.
Now, if I only can do it again I'll be happy as a hog at the trough.
