    Default 1st str8 & brush

Here's a pic of a str8 a retired barber gave me & a brush I picked up from a pawn shop. The str8 is a 1/2" from Geneva cutlery co. Althofts Gold Seal. The brush looks like a Boots, made in England. I paid $6.00 for it, looks to be in good shape but not sure if it's a badger or not.
I have a starter set coming in from vintageblades but couldn't wait for it to arrive

Welcome to the site. The Geneva Cutlery/Genco razors are nice ones, at least I really like the one I have and I've read enough other people who like their Gencos.

    Thanks guys,
I've been lurking for a while, learning all I can about straights. Straights is about the only form of shaving I haven't tried, started out with a DE about 30 yeara ago & then electric (which I hated), cartidges for the last 20 or so.

Does anyone know anything about the Boots brush listed above?

Boots is a long standing high street Pharmacy chain in the UK. They sell all kinds of toiletries, but as far as I know they don't sell their own brand shaving brushes any more. I have no idea which company originally made the brushes for Boots either, sorry.

They have changed a lot over recent years, they sell very little in the way of old school shaving products. They have a few basic soaps, a couple of boar bristle brushes by Men-U, and a few own brand/Wilkinson DE razors, their main lines for shaving are of course the normal range of cr@p by Gillette/Wilkinson.

    Default thanks for the info

Still waiting for my new blade to come in, it's getting closer about 6hrs (UPS tracking) away but looks like they are waiting for more deliveries coming this way
I've tried the razor above a couple of times but don't think it is shave ready. Tried different angles & pressures but doesn't take much hair off
New blade should be in next week, just have to learn patience.

    Keith
