New USPS info on shipping colognes
I'm a mailman and this is straight from USPS News Link (for postal employees):
"Now it can be Scent
New option for mailing DOT-approved shipments
Heightened concerns about security and safety in recent years have meant that most mailings containing cosmetics must be sent by surface transportation — until now. The Postal Service has revised mailing standards in the Domestic Mail Manual to allow shippers to send beauty aids by air.
Shippers have to obtain a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Special Permit 9275, and the parcels have to be packed according to safety control measures. Mailers who qualify may now use First-Class Mail, Priority Mail or Parcel Select service for their goods. Parcels sent with the permit must have a label on the address side of the package that reads “USPS Approved DOT – SP 9275.”
“Shippers of beauty aids are delighted to have these options for timely delivery of their products,” said USPS Manager of Mailing Standards Sharon Daniel.
Cambridge, MA-based beauty products giant Crabtree & Evelyn also is enthusiastic about the change. “We knew we could achieve results that other businesses could benefit from by joining as partners with the USPS team,” said Donna Young, the company’s U.S. distribution director.

I'm sure all the extra charges come from your end. Someone told me that if you say something is a "gift" it's charged less when it reaches Canada? And stop complaining your money and our money is the same now!
Oh and about "airmail" in the US? Don't you know Americans want and NEED it yesterday?! I love Priority Mail for that reason. Most parcels I deliver or get make it in 2 days. Usually we say 2-3 days. And fairly reasonable. IMHO don't bother with parcel post with parcels in the US. Priority is treaty differently. Moves faster (parcel post sits until they get enough to move it) and I see less damage to priority parcels. That's probably due to the fact they move it faster so not piling up.

I had to wait for a priority mail parcel for almost 2 weeks. Almost half of it was a customs holdup.

I don't understand that Ilija. It's not like the US and Canada are enemies. Or there are constant shipments of illegal items. Are the customs on either side that understaffed? I wonder how long items from Canada to the US take. I've received razors from Gary in NZ in a week or so! It's ridiculous.

I have no idea. I guess they're just lazy lol. I had a parcel sent via regular airmail sent later arrive sooner.
