Mastro Livi or Maestro Livi?
About half the time, he is called Mastro and the other half it's Maestro. Is that his name or a title of respect? If he really is a maestro, who bestows that designation? Is his name prounounce liv-EE or liv-I or some other way? Just curious.

It is spelled mastro on the tang of the razor if I am not mistaken (don't have one to check) and considering that he's Italian, I'd guess it will be pronounced like lee-vee.

Thanked: 0His name is Lido Livi and his son's name is Luca Livi.
The name is pronounced LEEv-EE and the title maestro (or mastro) is a title given to him by his clents.
All that info is available in his site http://www.coltellerielivi.it/Last edited by tazman; 10-11-2007 at 04:42 PM.

You say pot-ay-toe, I say pot-ahh-to...
Mastro is Italin, Maestro is the anglicised translation. I believe the term does denote a certain level of skill amongst artisans.

The title of master is bestowed upon the artist by his users, it can also be bestowed upon him by another master, but i was also told its someone who has been doing the trade for 50+ years.
