    Default Any woodcarvers

To those of you into woodworking, especially woodcarving. Do you sharpen your chisels and gouges and carving knives using the same methods you do for your razors? Same stones? Same level of sharpness?

havent sharpened a razor yet, but wood working chisels and gouges are mostly only beveled on one side and at a much steeper angle. i think mine are about 20 degrees single bevel. it will get sharp but not nearly as sharp as a razor because its thicker and the edge is steeper. i also push the chisels hard into pine before shaving chips off with them, it breaks the edge in better before use. similar stones, just dont use the same ones as it wears the stones out differently. been slowly making a wooden grand canoe over the last couple years, 20 foot with a square stern
